Frihedsbrevet ⎸ Premium platform for independent news

Frihedsbrevet

Always reporting, always independent

Client: Mediehuset Friheden

Key Focus: Website and app

Frihedsbrevet set out to redefine journalism in denmark. Since 2021, they’ve turned their back on government funding–choosing subscriptions as the engine behind their ambition: uncompromising journalism and relentless investigations. As the business scaled, so did the expectations. More readers, more content, more complexity. The product needed to keep up. Not just technically, but experientially. Something that could carry the weight of premium, independent journalism–now and in the years ahead. Through a series of workshops, the direction became clear. A digital experience that feels as sharp as the stories it holds. Dynamic yet authoritative. built to engage, but never distract. The result is a future-proof foundation designed to support frihedsbrevet’s mission: to challenge the status quo with independent, investigative journalism–on their own terms.

News lives through its readers. We integrated a commenting layer into every article and surfaced active threads on the overview, so readers can see where the conversation is happening – and join the stories that already have people talking.

Follow the story wherever it takes you

News doesn’t live in one format anymore—and neither should storytelling. A new, flexible platform lets journalists shape each story the way it deserves to be told. Audio, video, long reads, and everything in between–brought together in cohesive media packages. So when a story evolves, there’s a single place to follow it. right from the front page.

Articles and podcasts live side by side in a single digital experience – no separate silos, no second app. Each story is told in the format that suits it best, and readers move between reading and listening without breaking the thread.

Frihedsbrevet’s illustration style is part of the editorial voice, not decoration. We gave it room to lead – scaling it across article headers, teasers, and section fronts, so the visual language carries as much of the story as the words.
